The name comes from the name of the DLR station where we Chinese international students used to take in London.
DLR is a short form for Docklands Light Railway.
I happened to notice the never-before-heard sounds of the stations, called Wharf, Harbours, Quays, Cross, Bridge, Island, Garden, Ford and Cutty Sark, the most advanced Victorian tea trading ship, now quietly docked in the harbor as a museum along the DLR, which was well known to carry tea between London and Shanghai in the 19th century.
Chinese international students and Chinese expatriates travel to and from schools, companies and Canary Wharf or Dog Island. As the DLR train sped through the high-rise harbour landscape, I asked them, "What is this place like?" Some said it's like Shanghai, some said it's like Hong Kong, some said it's like Shenzhen, and some think it's like Guangzhou.
It's all where they come from.
